Outline:

This lecture will provide a practical overview of soft tissue grafting procedures around natural teeth and dental implants. Attendees will learn about the relevant soft tissue anatomy, recognize key clinical indications, and explore treatment planning strategies based on individual patient needs. The session will also cover fundamental grafting techniques—including Free Gingival Grafts (FGG), Connective Tissue Grafts (CTG), and tunneling with soft tissue substitutes—highlighting material selection and evidence-based decision-making for predictable outcomes.  

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES 

  • Understand the anatomy of soft tissues around teeth and implants and its relevance to grafting procedures. 
  • Identifyclinical indications for soft tissue grafting, including recession, lack of keratinized tissue, and esthetic concerns.  
  • Describe commonly used grafting techniques and appropriate material selection. 

About The Speakers

Dr. Rana Tarzemany received her DDS degree in Iran in 2009 and subsequently completed a combined PhD and Diploma in Periodontics at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2018. 

She is a board-certified periodontist, a Fellow and Examiner of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and a member of the Graduate Periodontics Board Examination Committee at the National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE). She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery. 

Since 2021, Dr. Tarzemany has served as the Director of the Graduate Periodontics Program at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry. She has been in private practice in Vancouver since 2018, with a clinical focus on mucogingival surgery and guided implant procedures. 

Dr. Tarzemany is the recipient of numerous prestigious research and teaching awards and has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in the field of oral wound healing. She is actively involved in teaching and lecturing at national and international conferences. Her current research centers on the development and validation of innovative 3D simulation models for oral surgical training.
