Outline:

This presentation is designed to provide dentists with a comprehensive understanding of soft and hard tissue regeneration, essential for successful dental implant placement. Attendees will explore the physiology of the alveolar ridge, along with the biological foundations of bone graft materials and membranes. By the end of the presentation, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and techniques necessary to achieve predictable outcomes in alveolar ridge preservation and augmentation.

  • Learn the biology behind different types of bone grafts.

About The Speaker

Dr. Thomas Nguyen is the Director of Continuing Dental Education and Associate Director of the Division of Periodontics at the McGill Faculty of Dental Medicine. He previously served as Director of Predoctoral Periodontology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Nguyen earned his DMD from the University of Montreal, followed by an AEGD residency at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, an MSc at McGill University, and specialty training in Periodontology at the University of Minnesota. He also completed an Executive MBA through the McGill-HEC Montreal program.   

He is a past recipient of the Basil G. Bibby Award, the Dr. E.T. and Mrs. Marjorie Bourke Award, and the American Academy of Periodontology Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics. Dr. Nguyen also received the Nevins Teaching and Clinical Research Fellowship and the Institute of Teaching and Learning Fellowship from the AAP Foundation. He is a board-certified specialist in periodontology and implant surgery. Dr. Nguyen is both a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.  

Dr. Nguyen’s clinical and research interests include the use of innovative concepts and technologies to enhance treatment outcomes and patient experience. His research focuses on implant dentistry, soft and hard tissue regeneration, and artificial intelligence.
