SHAPING WITHOUT SACRIFICE: REDEFINING MINIMALLY INVASIVE ENDODONTICS

Presenter: Dr. Diwakar Kinra

Session Date:  Friday October 23, 2026

Session Time:  8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Presenter Name: Dr. Diwakar Kinra

Outline:

Contemporary endodontics demands more than predictable disinfection—it requires structural stewardship. This comprehensive program presents a dentin-conserving, biologically driven approach to root canal therapy from access through obturation. Participants will learn how to design conservative access cavities that preserve dentin, implement controlled shaping strategies that respect canal anatomy, optimize irrigation protocols for enhanced chemical debridement, and select obturation techniques that maintain structural integrity.

Learning Objectives

  1. Design structurally mindful access cavities that preserve peri-cervical dentin while maintaining efficient canal location and negotiation.
  2. Implement conservative shaping protocols that respect original canal anatomy and minimize unnecessary dentin removal without compromising disinfection goals.
  3. Optimize irrigation strategies in smaller preparations by applying principles of fluid dynamics and activation to enhance chemical debridement.
  4. Select obturation techniques compatible with minimally invasive preparations to achieve a predictable seal without inducing excessive radicular stress.
  5. Integrate a complete, dentin-conserving clinical workflow from access through obturation that improves long-term structural prognosis and restorative success.

About The Speaker

Dr. Diwakar Kinra attended the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1999. Following three years of rigorous immersion in general private practice, he sought to refine his clinical focus, returning to the University of Detroit-Mercy, School of Dentistry to obtain his MS in 2004. Upon achieving his specialization in 2004, Dr. Kinra established a solo private practice limited to endodontics in Flint, Michigan.

Dr. Kinra balances a sophisticated clinical profile with a profound commitment to dental education, serving as an Adjunct Professor of Graduate Endodontics and Graduate Periodontics at the University of Detroit-Mercy, and University of Michigan School of Dentistry. In this dual role, he acts as a pivotal bridge between frontline clinical practice and the latest academic research.

Dr. Kinra has cultivated a significant international presence as a lecturer and author since 2005. Having presented his expertise at more than 35 universities both domestically and abroad. His dedication to the advancement of the dental profession is further evidenced by his prominent leadership roles and extensive professional affiliations. He has notably served as the Past President of the Michigan Association of Endodontists, demonstrating a high level of executive service and advocacy for the specialty.
