A protocol for diagnosis, management and prevention of post operative complications following dento-alveolar surgery.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Management of displaced/retained roots
  • Management of iatrogenic or pathologic sinus communication
  • Management of intra-operative and post-operative bleeding
  • Management of nerve injuries
  • Management of infections/osteomyelitis
  • Management of Radiation induced and medication induced osteonecrosis of the jaw
  • Management of alveolar osteitis (dry socket)
  • Management of complications related to implant surgery
  • Management of mandibular fracture
  • Management of sodium hypochlorite and calcium hydroxide related injuries


Dr. Ali Sadeghi, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He earned his dental doctorate from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and his medical doctorate from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Sadeghi completed a one year dental general practice residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York. He then completed a one year fellowship in oral and maxillofacial surgery, a one year general surgery internship and the six-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency all at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He was an attending surgeon at both Mount Sinai Hospital and Lincoln Medical Center in New York where he participated in resident training and development.

He is currently the department head of dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver and an Assistant Clinical Professor at University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Sadeghi was awarded the part-time UBC faculty teaching award in 2010. Dr. Sadeghi is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and an active member of BCAOMS, CAOMS and AAOMS.

Dr. Sadeghi has been in private practice since 2008. He maintains a private practice in Vancouver and Port Coquitlam where he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
